It took lots of courage but

Look where we are now.

I founded Born to Bloom: Maternal and Infant OT in response to experiencing the lack of appropriate resources and support for expecting and new mothers first hand.

The spark of began when I was 4 months postpartum and in the private room of my pelvic floor PT’s office engaging in internal work. No, seriously.

As a fellow healthcare worker, my PT and I were discussing the lack of holistic care for women throughout the perinatal period and how the hospital and insurance systems were stifling what should be proactive, holistic and empowering care for women and their babies. The traditional medical model is “problem based”- meaning, there must be a documented problem to treat something. This model is heavily managed and supported by insurance companies due to the financial motives involved. This affects the entire culture and continuum of medical care, which often doesn’t properly serve the people or communities it purportedly represents.

Parents should not have to “wait and see” if there is a delay or problem to understand how to support their child’s development. I knew there was work to be done.
